2022 Summer Volleyball

Hello, Wildcat families!

Our high school volleyball program offers many training opportunities through the summer and we’re so excited to be back in the gym together!

Students entering 6th-12th grades can join us on Tuesday & Thursdays through June & July for our skills camp: https://isd2144.ce.eleyo.com/…/volleyball-skills-camp

Students entering 9th-12th grade can join our Camp Week from 8-11am on July 25-28: https://isd2144.ce.eleyo.com/…/volleyball-high-school

Students entering 6th-8th grade can join our Camp Week from 11:30-1:30pm on July 25-28: https://isd2144.ce.eleyo.com/…/volleyball-middle-school

Students entering 2nd-5th grade can join our Camp Week from 1:30-3pm on July 25-28: https://isd2144.ce.eleyo.com/…/volleyball-youth-camp

All of our camps are coached by our high school coaching staff in the Wildcat Community Center. All summer training opportunities are optional and do not dictate fall team placement.

There are many other opportunities for volleyball training throughout the summer. Many of our athletes participate in the summer speed & weight program through Community Ed, college camps throughout the midwest, and summer training programs through area clubs like Crossfire, Minnesota Select, Minnesota Premier, Kokoro, etc. A GroupMe chat has been started to coordinate carpooling to these opportunities and can be found here: https://groupme.com/join_group/86874393/BiQ4tJms. Volleyball families of all levels may join this group to help coordinate rides and opportunities as desired.

Please reach out with questions and GO WILDCATS!

Coach Kayla says, “I’m so excited to be coaching this year! I grew up playing volleyball and it has always been a passion of mine. An Update from Coach Shelby

Coach Lindstrom shares the following update from 9th Grade & Assistant Varsity Coach Shelby Peltier:

“Players, Coaches, and Parents,

I hope everyone has had a great start to the new year. I wanted to tell everyone that I will not be coaching for Chisago this fall. This was one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make. Coaching has helped me become a better person and I have learned so many great things from this opportunity. It was great getting to know all of you throughout the last two seasons, thank you for all the support, encouragement and for this amazing opportunity. I will always remember this experience and I hope to get back to coaching in the future.

If you have questions feel free to reach out (slp20015@gmail.com).

Thank you,
Shelby”

We will miss Coach Shelby and her numerous contributions to our program. We wish her the very best in her next steps in life!

2021 Volleyball Captains

We are excited to announce our 2021 volleyball captains!

The selection process is not easy. We follow the same process as many programs at CLHS and using recommendations from the Minnesota State High School League:

  1. Each spring, all returning Varsity are emailed an application and an explanation of the process. They have two weeks to submit applications to our coaching staff including short essay questions, references, leadership experience, and ideas for the program.
  2. The coaches review the applications, discuss our experiences with each applicant, reach out to references provided by the applicants, and ask the applicants follow-up questions when necessary. Then the coaching staff makes the captain selection based on athlete’s leadership experience, mentorship capabilities, work ethic in the gym, and other notable qualities. There is no voting by players (this becomes a popularity contest). All applicants are notified if they made it or not. All captains must apply each year, even if they were a captain the year before.
  3. From there, the captains meet weekly with the coaching staff all summer to prepare for the 2021 season. They go through a leadership book study (this year it’s Energy Bus by Jon Gordon), their handbook/expectations, and multiple planning tasks (apparel selection, social calendar, virtual training, promotions, etc.). They also help write curriculum for our program this fall where they will lead weekly lessons from our summer reading to help develop our program’s team-oriented skills.
  4. The captains also meet weekly with the coaching staff during the season for communication and connection to the team. They will continue planning events for the group, helping mentor and teach the younger girls, and representing the program as a whole to the community.

Our 2021 captains are as follows:
Captain Avery Dresel

Avery Dresel: “I am submitting an application to be a captain for the Chisago Lakes Volleyball program because I think it is very important to set a mature, hard working example for the younger grades in the program. I believe I can demonstrate to the best of my abilities what a dedicated volleyball player and leader looks like. A sports program thrives upon unity and collaboration. Without a captain of the team, how would these characteristics continue to reoccur in the program?”

Captain Kalley Vugteveen

Kalley Vugteveen: “I think I would benefit the program by providing leadership and organization to the program. I want to provide an example for younger girls coming into the program of what a successful student athlete looks like and get to know our program better.”

Allison Gregory: “I would like to be a captain of the Chisago Lakes volleyball program because I love taking the role of leadership and I want to make a comfortable environment for the whole entire program. I don’t want any girls to feel left out or not wanted. We are all one team, not 4 teams, we’re in it together. I would also love to be a role model for the whole program with how to act, show leadership, and having a great attitude.”

Captain Ashley Peltier

Ashley Peltier: “I want to be captain of the Chisago Lakes Volleyball Program because when I was in 8th grade and got pulled up to the JV team I was nervous because I was the youngest person in the whole program and didn’t really know anyone. After the first week I already felt like part of the family thanks to the captains. I want to help the incoming volleyball players and the returning players feel like one big family.”

The coaching staff is very pleased with our group of 2021 captains. “After losing 9 outstanding seniors last year, the question of leadership was a concern for this season. These captains have stepped up tremendously already and we know they will do great things for 2021!” says Coach Hannah. The captains have already been working hard this summer and are excited for what the 2021 season has in store.

See more about the expectations and requirements of captainship here.

Welcome, Coach Nicole!

B-Squad Coach Nicole Johnson

The Chisago Lakes Wildcats are excited to welcome alumna Nicole Johnson to the coaching staff. Nicole will fill the B-Squad and Assistant Varsity coaching role.

“Nicole brings a passion for the game, depth of knowledge, and natural teaching and coaching ability to the staff. She is an experienced setter, hitter , and leader who will contribute well to the B-Squad team and to our program as a whole. We are very excited to have her join us!” Coach Hannah said.

Nicole played volleyball for Chisago Lakes from 6th grade through her graduation in 2014 (fun fact- her and coach Hannah played together!). From there, she played and served as the team president for the club volleyball team during her time at the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh where she earned an accounting degree. Since she graduated from college in 2019, she’s worked in the Accounting Department at CBRE and was just accepted at Bethel University to pursue her Master’s Degree in Education. “Volleyball was and is a major part of my life and has helped me build strong characteristics such as leadership, teamwork, and a strong work ethic that I hope to bring to my fellow coaches and athletes.”

An Update From Coach Vince

B-Squad Coach Vince Klosner

Players and Coaches-

I hope everyone is doing well in the off-season and keeping those volleyball skills fresh!

I want to personally inform you that I will not be coaching this upcoming season. This decision was a lot harder than I anticipated as I’ve learned so much from you and it has helped me grow as a person. It’s hard to describe how rewarding it was to watch all of you grow as young adults and improve your volleyball game. I’m very proud to be able to say that I was your coach and hope I was able to make it a positive experience for you.

I would like to thank all of you for the opportunity to be your coach and it was an experience I will not forget!  I hope to be able to act as a fill in coach if needed so maybe I will see you around!

If you have questions or maybe a school project that has to do with law enforcement I would love to be a resource for you.

-Coach Vince
